Electrical Engineering

Electrical engineering is an exciting and growing field that opens the door to a variety of careers. Whether it’s building robots or designing electrical systems in cars, the work of electrical engineers is critical in our increasingly tech-savvy society.

Students studying electrical engineering at South Dakota Mines will learn in an environment that is broadly based in the fundamentals of the profession. This gives graduates a high degree of adaptability throughout their professional career. They will learn to design circuits and electronic parts, improve upon existing electronic systems, develop and build machines and equipment, understand and design radar systems and more.

The mission of the Electrical Engineering Department, in support of the vision of South Dakota Mines, is to educate electrical engineering students to address global challenges, innovate to reach their creative potential, and engage in partnerships to benefit society. It is also intended that the students will develop a dedication to their profession, assume leadership roles, and practice lifelong learning.

The Electrical Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of  ABET.
